Tape

Question: How can I make tape media formatted in DLT7000 work in a DLT4000?

Answer: If you have a CompacTape IV that's been formatted and written to on a DLT7000 and want to make it work on a DLT4000, please follow the steps outlined below:

Take a blank tape and insert it into the DLT7000.

Use the density override button and select the 20GB density with or without compression.

Proceed to write to the tape as usual.

Eject the tape and it is now ready to be used in a DLT4000.

DLT IV Tape Capacity

The DLT IV tape (depending on the drive) will support native capacities of 20, 35, or 40 GB. The capacity you achieve is completely drive dependant.
